Official SU Response:
The SU President has received a response from Philip Tower, the Energy Manager at the University of Huddersfield, regarding the potential measures that could be explored to improve energy efficiency within the library.
Philip has confirmed that this feedback has been noted and formally added to his work programme, where it will be considered as part of a wider review of energy use and efficiency across University buildings. This will involve an initial assessment to identify any feasible opportunities for improvement.
He has also advised that a more detailed update will be provided once this initial review has been completed and further information is available. This will allow for a clearer understanding of what actions may be possible and any next steps that could be taken.
I have observed several times that all the bulbs between the aisles of bookshelves in the library remain switched on. Since students and staff only spend brief periods in these aisles while locating books, I believe that equipping these lights with motion sensors could lead to a significant reduction in electricity usage on campus.
